Speaking to Off The Ball, Mark Lawrenson has been speaking about Jurgen Klopp’s uncanny ability to improve players after signing them for Liverpool.
The Reds have evolved into one of the very best teams in history, and they’ve done that without signing many so-called superstar footballers.
Indeed, while the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk are now seen as some of the world’s best players, they weren’t quite at that level when they arrived at Anfield, joining from Roma and Southampton respectively.
However, Klopp has managed to make almost every player he’s worked with into a better footballer, but Lawrenson believes there’s only one signing Klopp has failed to improve – Loris Karius.

Lawrenson was speaking about Klopp’s ability to improve players.
“They’re taking these really good players and turning them into outstanding and world class players, and it’s a really good way of doing your business. I would say that apart from the goalkeeper he signed on a whim from Germany that cost us in the Champions League final, all of the players that he has signed, he’s improved them all and as a coach it doesn’t get any better than that,” Lawrenson said.

If it weren’t for that fateful night in Kyiv in 2018 then this conversation may be a very different one.
Let’s not forget, Karius was a very handy goalkeeper before he made those two fateful errors, and since then, his confidence has been shot.
That’s not Klopp’s fault, and as Lawrenson says, the gaffer has improved every other player he’s signed for Liverpool.
Unfortunately, there was no coming back for Karius after that Champions League final.
