Liverpool will be looking to overturn a three-goal deficit against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night.
Mark Lawrenson has predicted that the Liverpool supporters will ‘slaughter’ Philippe Coutinho & Luis Suarez once their game against Barcelona gets started on Tuesday night.
The Spanish club will travel to Anfield with a 3-0 lead from the first leg of their Champions League semi-final encounter as even a narrow defeat would see Catalan-based club seal a passage through to the final.
In the first match, striker Suarez scored against his former club and he opted to celebrate which didn’t sit well with certain sections of the Liverpool supporters.
Speaking to Football Focus on BBC One (04/05/2019 at 12:30 pm), Lawrenson expects the Anfield faithful to give two of their former players a good reception at first, but then he expects the mood towards them to change.
On Suarez celebration v Liverpool: “Scoring is the hardest thing you do in football,” Lawrenson told Football Focus. “If you score one in the Champions League semi-final, does it really matter that it’s against the team you used to play for? And, by the way, he was brilliant at Liverpool.
“I tell you what will be interesting is the reception he gets, along with Coutinho on Tuesday night. I think it’ll be really, really good until the game starts and they’ll probably slaughter them.”
Prior to their departures to the Nou Camp, both Suarez and Coutinho enjoyed successful spells on Merseyside, with the former arguably producing the best form.
Suarez was part of the Brendan Rodgers team that narrowly missed out on winning the Premier League title as the current team finds itself in the exact same position.
The race for the Premier League title is set to go to the final day of the season in what will no doubt be a nerve-racking encounter for both sets of supporters.
But before then, Jurgen Klopp’s side will be looking to overturn an unlikely three-goal deficit against a team that has Lionel Messi in their ranks.
