Mark Lawrenson has predicted that Leeds will escape the relegation zone this weekend by a point. In his BBC Sport column, he claims that Leeds will secure a crucial point at home to Brighton, and Burnley lose to Tottenham.
Leeds currently sit in the relegation zone after Wednesday’s 3-0 loss to Chelsea. Everton sit two points ahead with a game in hand, while Burnley also have a game in hand. However, Burnley are on level points with Leeds.
It is a crucial weekend for the Whites. Before their run of games against Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City, they will have pinpointed the final two games of the season where they have the chance to pick up points.
Brighton at Elland Road hands them said opportunity, while Burnley travel to Spurs. Lawrenson gave his predictions for both games, and he thinks Spurs will win 3-0 – while Leeds will draw 1-1 in Yorkshire against Brighton.
“Spurs’ top-four hopes are still not in their own hands but they are very much alive after their win over Arsenal on Thursday and I think they will put in another big performance here,” Lawrenson predicted Spurs to win.
On Leeds, he said: “Marsch needs to tell his players that they start this game with a point and they finish the game with one, at the very least. It might mean setting up defensively, and getting people behind the ball.”
Lawrenson predicts Leeds and Tottenham games: Can Whites win?
Following Tottenham’s win over Arsenal, it is really hard to see anything other than a Spurs win against Burnley this weekend, and that hands Leeds the chance to escape the drop zone and cruise into 17th place.
But they must stop an in-form Brighton side that come into the clash having beaten Manchester United 4-0. Leeds certainly can win the game, but they must avoid defeat first of all. A loss, and Leeds really face going down.
