Mark Lawrenson has predicted on BBC Sport that Liverpool will beat Chelsea 2-0 in Saturday’s FA Cup final. The Reds have been excellent of late, and Lawrenson believes that the Merseyside outfit will nab the trophy.
The Reds come into the game after 15 games unbeaten in all competitions, winning 12 of those outings. Their front three are on fire, even if Mo Salah is not producing the goalscoring talents he did earlier on in the campaign.
Liverpool are likely to rotate once again at Wembley, with Fabinho now sidelined with a hamstring injury. Lawrenson expects skipper Jordan Henderson to come into the side – as he did against Villa on Tuesday night.
Reds icon Lawrenson also picked the front three that he believes will start for Liverpool – suggesting £45m (BBC) Diogo Jota that misses out, Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz starting. He expects Liverpool to win 2-0.
“Liverpool are favourites for me. They will be without the injured Fabinho, which is a blow, but Jordan Henderson will just come in there. Up front they can go with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz,” Lawrenson said.
Lawrenson predicts Liverpool to beat Chelsea: Blues morale high
While Lawrenson is probably right to predict a Liverpool win against Chelsea, the Blues are likely to be in a good head space right now. A 3-0 win against Leeds, and the knowledge that they are impressive in finals.
Liverpool will not simply walk past Chelsea, but it will be a case of breaking the Blues down, eventually. Chelsea are more than capable of taking Liverpool to extra-time, especially a Liverpool side without Fabinho.
