Premier League striker Jermain Defoe is reportedly close to moving to Scottish Premiership side Rangers

BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson believes Jermain Defoe’s reported move to Rangers is ‘clever’ and ‘most definitely’ good for the player.
Sky Sports claim on Sunday that the 36-year-old Bournemouth player has completed his medical ahead of an 18-month loan deal at Ibrox.
It is said that Defoe had his medical in Manchester on Saturday after agreeing personal terms with the Scottish Premiership side this week.
The former England international is set to link up with his ex-national teammate Steven Gerrard, who has Rangers level on points with their Old Firm rivals in the table.
Ahead of Defoe’s reported move to Scotland, former Liverpool defender Lawrenson was certain that it was a wise decision from the Premier League stalwart to move up north.
“Clever and most definitely [a good move for Defoe[,” Lawrenson told Football Focus on BBC One on 05/01/2019 at 12:35 pm.
“There’s one thing about Jermain Defoe, he’s still extremely fit. And a goal is a goal. And a chance is a chance whatever league you play in.”

Scottish Premiership teams are currently on a winter break, with Gerrard’s side inflicting a 1-0 defeat on the league leaders at the end of 2018.
If Defoe does complete his move to Rangers then he will be expected to link up with the high-flying Alfredo Morelos in the striking department.
The Columbia international has played 34 games in all competitions for Gerrard’s side, scoring 20 goals and supplying 10 assists in the process.
The Gers’ first match after the break will be against Cowdenbeath in the Scottish Cup on January 18 before they begin league action once again against Kilmarnock five days later.
