Sunderland have parted company with Simon Grayson.

BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson looks on as prepares for the start of the npower Championship match between Queens Park Rangers and Leeds United at Loftus Road on May 7, 2011 in London, England.

Mark Lawrenson has offered his verdict on Simon Grayson’s Sunderland sacking… and Mackems fans were quick to pull him up on it.

Grayson’s departure was announced 17 minutes after Sunderland’s 3-3 draw at home to bottom club Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday.

The result – which followed a topsy-turvy game in which Bolton twice lead – was Sunderland’s 13th without a league win, and continued their winless home run, which began on 2 January.

Simon Grayson, manager of Sunderland looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Brentford and Sunderland at Griffin Park on October 21, 2017 in Brentford, England.

But Lawrenson – who hails from Preston, the home of Grayson’s previous club – believes Mackems were wrong to sack the 47-year-old.

The former Liverpool defender wrote: “Well done Sunderland!! Keep Sacking your Manager-It’s obviously Working for you….Simon Grayson a Proven Boss at that Level.”

However, Lawrenson’s tweet was not entirely accurate, as the following Sunderland fans were keen to let him know, despite the high turnover of managers at the Stadium of Light.

Grayson leaves Sunderland 22nd in the Championship and two points from safety, although Birmingham will extend that gap to five if they beat Brentford on Wednesday.

Were Sunderland right to sack Grayson? Who should they appoint instead?
