Newcastle United take on Burnley in the Premier League this evening.
Pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks Newcastle United and Burnley will play out a 1-1 draw at St. James’ Park tonight.
The Magpies head into the game having been beaten 3-0 by Chelsea in Sunday’s FA Cup clash, and they desperately need some good news today.
Rafael Benitez is busy attempting to bring in new signings on transfer deadline day, with at least two new faces needed to boost the Newcastle squad, given that they lie level on points with the relegation zone.
Away from deadline day, Newcastle need points quickly, having won just two of the last 15 Premier League games, and they take on an out-of-form Burnley side tonight.
The Clarets were enjoying a superb season before a torrid run of form, in which they have failed to win in any of their last seven Premier League outings, claiming just three points in that run.
Sean Dyche’s men are still up in eighth place in the Premier League table, but their recent form means that a win would be greatly received tonight.
Ahead of the game, pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks the game will end in a 1-1 draw, with neither side in particularly good form right now.
Lawrenson added that he is concerned about Newcastle, as their takeover saga is threatening to permeate their season, and the ex-Liverpool defender believes the situation still has a long time to run yet.
“Burnley have gone seven Premier League games without a win and Newcastle, who have won twice in the same period, look like an in-form side in comparison,” said Lawrenson. “It is very hard to pick either side to go and win, although Burnley will undoubtedly return to form at some point.”
“I am still concerned about Newcastle, because they are being distracted by talk of a takeover and, by the looks of things, that is going to last longer than Brexit,” he added.
