BBC Sport pundit Mark Lawrenson has labelled Everton’s defeat to Fulham as ‘strange’ and predicted more misery for them as he believes they will lose against Manchester United at the weekend.

In recent weeks, Marco Silva’s side have produced a number of indifferent performances and results. From beating Chelsea on home soil to suffering a deserved defeat at already-relegated Fulham.

At Goodison Park, the results and performances have been improving, but former Liverpool defender Lawrenson has backed out-of-form Manchester United to clinch all three points on Sunday.

“Everton’s defeat at Fulham was a strange result and came just as they were starting to look like a much better team,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.

“It was probably their worst result of the season, especially if you consider the form they were in when they went into the game. Manchester United are not in great shape either, mind. I would back them to win at Goodison Park.”

Truthfully, it won’t surprise many if Everton were to beat United because it would sum up their season and their inconsistencies.

Despite suffering a defeat last time out, Silva will still be hoping to secure an unlikely European spot and finish in the top-seven.

At this moment in time, the Merseyside club are sitting ninth in the table, one point behind eighth-placed Wolves, who have a game in hand and the same number of points behind Brendan Rodgers Leicester City.
