Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has criticised West Ham United striker Andy Carroll on BBC Sport.

The former Liverpool and Republic of Ireland international defender was not pleased with West Ham striker Carroll’s action last weekend.

The former Newcastle United star left his place on the Hammers’ substitutes’ bench during the Premier League game against Manchester City last weekend.

Lawrenson has strongly criticised the 29-year-old England international striker for his action.

“West Ham got turned over by Manchester City last week and Hammers boss David Moyes fell out with Andy Carroll when he went back to the dressing room during the game after being an unused substitute,” Lawrenson wrote on BBC Sport.

“Moyes was quite right in my opinion, because that is an insult to your team-mates. What sort of person does that – let alone Carroll, who is so injury prone that you might only get 15 starts out of him a season.”

Frustration

One suspects that Carroll was frustrated at not getting the chance to play against City, and while that is understandable, the former Liverpool striker should not have left the substitutes’ bench at the London Stadium last weekend.

The former Newcastle striker, who earns £70,000 per week as salary according to The Daily Star, has made seven starts and seven substitute appearances for West Ham this season, scoring three goals in the process.

West Ham are 15th in the Premier League table at the moment with 35 points from 35 matches, just three points above the relegation zone.
