Spurs lost 2-1 in last night’s fourth-round clash at Anfield for what was only their second defeat of the season in all competitions.
Two goals from Daniel Sturridge in both halves helped Jurgen Klopp’s side into a comfortable 2-0 lead with 26 minutes to go.
Vincent Janssen threw Tottenham a lifeline by converting a 76th-minute penalty, but it proved too little too late for Mauricio Pochettino and co last night.
Pochettino named 10 changes to his first XI for the trip to Merseyside – one less than his opposite number Jurgen Klopp – and a number of Lilywhites players seemed to struggle.
One of those was 19-year-old midfielder Joshua Onomah, who took a backlash from some Tottenham fans on Twitter afterwards.
But Mark Lawrenson has noted that the youngster looked “as strong as a bull” against the Reds.
He told BBC Sport: “We haven’t seen much of Tottenham so far but Josh Onomah is as strong as a bull.”
It was certainly a steep learning curb for Onomah and a number of his Spurs colleagues, and some of them may not make another first-team appearance this season.
Unless Tottenham draw a lower-league side on their FA Cup journey, then Pochettino can ill afford to field such inexperience in the Premier League or Champions League.
