Mark Lawrenson has claimed that Antonio Conte has said ‘one or two strange things’ during his time as Tottenham manager, as he told Off the Ball.
But the Anfield legend made it clear that Conte is ‘getting it right’ at Spurs, as they currently sit fourth in the Premier League table.
Champions League football is the aim, with their recent 4-0 win at Aston Villa further showcasing that they are going to take this top-four spot with both hands.
Whilst everything is rosy in the Tottenham garden right now, it wasn’t so long ago that Conte was seemingly threatening to quit after his side’s defeat to Burnley.
That’s the nature of having a man like Conte in your dugout, as Lawrenson shared his thoughts on the job he has done and how everything is making sense, despite previously questioning his verbal tactics
“Whilst he has said one or two strange things Conte over the course of being there,” said Lawrenson. “He’s getting it right.
“That’s all you actually want. The couple of players he signed, he knows them really, really well. And they know him. That makes a massive difference.
“Once you have allied that with you Son’s and you Kane’s, those type of people. All of sudden, they look completely different. I still wouldn’t be convinced defensively about Tottenham, but they are definitely getting there.
“He has been clever Conte, he has said one or two things and you think ‘why on earth would you say that’. But when you look at it, then results start to come and you think ‘okay we get it’.”

Tottenham have the trophy-laden coach in the dugout and they have a superstar front line worthy of playing in Europe.
It’s just a case of more stardust needing to be added to this team, but that’s where a certain Daniel Levy comes into it.
The Spurs chairman can be as stubborn as they come on the best of days, so perhaps Conte is the man, with his overexuberant ways, to get through to him.
The north London club are craving that all-important trophy and Conte needs to be backed in the summer market for all of that to become a reality.
