Wolverhampton Wanderers suffered FA Cup heartache last time out and they will be looking to bounce back in the Premier League.
Mark Lawrenson has predicted more heartache for Wolves when they take on Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday following their FA Cup semi-final defeat to Watford.
The BBC Sport pundit stated that what happened at Wembley last Sunday wasn’t really like Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, who blew a two-goal lead in the final 11 minutes before eventually losing the match in extra-time.
For large parts of the campaign, Wolves have showcased their strength and talent, but they suffered their worst defeat under their highly-rated manager since he walked through the door in 2017.
As a result of that defeat at Wembley, Lawrenson has predicted the Midlands outfit to react by losing at relegation-threated Southampton at the weekend.
“What happened at Wembley was one of the few occasions this season where you could look at Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, and think: ‘That is really not like you.'” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“So it will be interesting to see whether they can bounce back from that disappointment. We will find out how much it has affected them on Saturday.”
Nuno’s side still have a lot to play for in the Premier League because they will still want to finish in the top-seven and they have a number of teams chasing them for that spot.
Whilst they were competing in the FA Cup, Brendan Rodgers’ high-flying Leicester City leapfrogged them into seventh place, but the Midlands outfit can reclaim that position if they win their game in hand.
But before that, they must see off the Saints at St Mary’s at the weekend, with the South Coast club one place and five points above the relegation zone with six games of the season remaining.
