Tottenham Hotspur will return to domestic action after the international break.
Mark Lawrenson has claimed that Manchester City ace Kyle Walker will get ‘slaughtered’ by Tottenham fans ahead of their Champions League ties next month.
Both teams were pitted together for the quarter-finals of Europe’s biggest club competition, with former Spurs defender Walker reacting with this message on his personal Twitter account when the draw was made.
Speaking to Football Focus on BBC One (16/03/2019 12:15 pm), Lawrenson offered his thoughts on Spurs coming up against their fellow English counterparts and what he made of Walker’s Tweet.
“I think it’s tough the English teams playing against each other,” Lawrenson told Football Focus. “It won’t feel like the Champions League. I think the best thing for Tottenham would be playing at home or back at Lane or whatever it is called this week. Wembley is such a big pitch, the bigger the pitch against the good sides, the better for City, definitely
“Well, he’s going to get slaughtered basically, isn’t he?! [on Walker’s Tweet] He’s not on about the game, he’s on about going back and getting slaughtered.”
The first leg will be played at Wembley, with Pep Guardiola’s side winning their 1-0 in the Premier League earlier on in the season.
Tottenham brushed off German side Dortmund to progress to the last eight, while City thumped Schalke, including beating them 7-0 in the second leg.
Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping he can repeat the same efforts and performance Liverpool put in against the Manchester club last season which saw Jurgen Klopp’s side reach the final.
There is no doubt that Guardiola has the quality of players to produce the goods, it’s just that they haven’t got the pedigree in the Champions League which indicates that they can lift the trophy this season.
