Everton are in Premier League action at Goodison Park this weekend as the Toffees boss Marco Silva remains under serious pressure.

Football pundit Mark Lawrenson looks on before the npower Championship game between Cardiff City and Queens Park Rangers at Cardiff City Stadium on April 23, 2011 in Cardiff, Wales.

BBC Sport pundit Mark Lawrenson has given his verdict on the future of Everton boss Marco Silva ahead of this weekend’s Premier League fixture at Goodison Park, as written on the outlet’s website.

The Toffees host Tottenham on Sunday hoping to build on their midweek League Cup win over Watford, but are going into the fixture on the back of a controversial and deflating defeat to Brighton in the league last week.

Everton currently sit 16th in the Premier League table, with six defeats to their name, and although they have managed to put in some good performances and claim positive results – the Goodison win over West Ham, for example – they remain inconsistent and Silva remains under pressure.

Lawrenson believes that, even though Spurs have had issues of their own this season, they “should still have too much for the Toffees”, going on to claim that, if Everton don’t pick up a victory against the Londoners, the clash against fellow strugglers Southampton will become especially crucial for Silva’s future.

Marco Silva the head coach

“Keeping Everton out is not such a difficult task and although Spurs have not been at their best recently, I still think they should have too much for the Toffees,” Lawrenson wrote on BBC Sport. “Where does that leave under-pressure Everton boss Marco Silva? I don’t know.

“His immediate future depends on the outlook of the club’s owners, but if Everton don’t win this game, I would say that Silva definitely cannot afford to lose his next one, which is away at Southampton.”
