Southampton play host to Chelsea in the Premier League today.
Southampton manager Mark Hughes addressed the media yesterday, ahead of his side’s clash with Chelsea today, and shared what he told his players in the build up to their home game against the Blues, as quoted by the Daily Echo.
The Saints are currently in a whole world of trouble, and sit in 18th spot in the Premier League table, three points adrift of safety, although they do have a game in hand over 17th placed Crystal Palace.
Chelsea, meanwhile, sit in fifth spot in the table, although they are on a poor run of form themselves, having won just one league game since February 12th.
Antonio Conte’s side are a wounded animal, and that could spell bad news for the Saints.
Hughes spoke to reporters yesterday, and shared what he told his players ahead of their clash with the west Londoners at St Mary’s today, as quoted by the Daily Echo:
“I mentioned to them the influence and the effect the Southampton fans had when I was here as a player under difficult circumstances in a similar position. The fact everybody was pulling in the right direction and the same direction was a big factor in us getting out of the situation I found myself as a player here. This game at the weekend is the one that we have solely talked about and it is what we have worked on. We discussed Chelsea at length and we will put more information into the lads and leading into the game.”
The south coast outfit can actually jump outside the bottom three today with a win, should results elsewhere go their way, but that will be easier said than done, with Chelsea determined to put their poor recent run of form behind them.
