Stoke City manager Mark Hughes does not think that Tottenham Hotspur will win the Premier League title this season.
The former Manchester United forward has also suggested that Spurs’ window of opportunity of winning the league title in England may have gone.
“Arguably in the last two years a lot of people felt they were the best team, even though they haven’t won the Premier League title,” Hughes told The Mirror about Tottenham.
“They have missed out twice, and it might be beyond them, clearly, because of the lead City have and the level they’re playing at, and teams above have recruited well. So there is a danger that they may have missed their opportunity.”
Tottenham finished second in the Premier League table last season and third during the 2016-17 campaign.
Spurs have steadily progressed under manager Mauricio Pochettino, but it does not look likely that they are going to catch Manchester City or Manchester United this season.
City are running away with the Premier League title this season, while United are their closest and nearest rivals.
Given the financial strength of the two Manchester clubs and London outfit Chelsea, Spurs could struggle to compete with them for the league title in the coming years.
Meanwhile, Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli has spoken of his admiration of German and European giants Bayern Munich.
Both Spurs and Bayern have progressed to the last-16 stage of the Champions League.
Alli told The Sun: “You just have to look at the story. Bayern will always be one of the strongest teams in the world. They bring so much quality to the field, have incredible players.
“It would not be my wish to play against them in the next round[of the Champions League]. I talked a bit about the Bundesliga with Leroy Sane and Kevin Wimmer, and saw German clubs in the Champions League. At FIFA on the console, I also play with Bayern.”
