Stoke City manager Mark Hughes is not done yet in the transfer market

Mark Hughes has assured Stoke City supporters at his press conference this morning as quoted by the club’s official website that the club remain active in the transfer market, even though the window is set to shut next week.

Stoke have so far brought in promising winger Ramadan Sobhi from Al Ahly for a fee that could rise to €6 million (roughly £5.12 million) as well as Joe Allen from Liverpool for £13 million, with both players signing five year deals.

But Stoke have not added to their squad despite some calls for defensive reinforcements, with the Potters shown to be particularly vulnerable without Ryan Shawcross, illustrated by the club’s dip in form last season during his enforced absence from the side.

However Mark Hughes has insisted the club are still active, despite little movement in recent times.

“You have to let certain things run their course and give them time that they deserve.” Hughes said of his transfer targets.

“There may come a point where you have to make a decision to move on.Certainly there have been deals this window that we have done that with – deals which aren’t in the public domain.

“We are still in there though and we feel something could still happen. People may think that we aren’t too active because of what we have done but let me assure them we are.There is still time. Peoples attitude sometimes changes towards the end of the window, so we will see what happens.”

Phil Jones is linked with Stoke

Stoke are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United’s Phil Jones , as reported here by Sky Sports.

He is one of a number of targets the club have been linked with over the summer, including Manolo Gabbiadini, (Mirror), Christian Pulisic (Bild), Luc Castaignos (HITC) and Saido Berahino (widely reported, including by the Mirror).

So far only two players have come through the door at the Britannia, but judging from Mark Hughes’ latest comments, they won’t be the last.
