Former Rangers star makes it clear who he holds responsible for club’s troubles.
New Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha
Former Glasgow Rangers striker Mark Hateley has called for new boss Pedro Caixinha to be given plenty of time to get it right at the club.
Caixinha has overseen a mixed run of results since taking over, and Hateley says it is his predecessor who is responsible for the problems.
Speaking to the Glasgow Evening Times, Hateley said it is Mark Warburton who left Rangers so far behind Celtic.
Former Rangers manager Mark Warburton
He said: “The biggest problem for Pedro is what he has inherited. Mark Warburton’s recruitment was a failure.
“Without naming names, I think we could all see that there were players brought in who simply could not fit in at Rangers. Warburton also only had one plan and as a coach you need have Plan A, B, C and D when you go into a match.”
Failed signing… Rangers’ Joey Barton
Last summer Rangers were a glorious blank canvas upon promotion to the Premiership, with hopes high having finally climbed back to the division they once dominated after four years in exile.
Clearly they did not get it right, with the transfer policy their chief downfall.
Mark Warburton drew on his knowledge of the English lower divisions to bring in reinforcements which helped them clinch promotion to the top flight, but he underestimated the task ahead, by continuing to do so.
Caixinha is likely to bring in players he has worked with abroad, which could be just as tricky in terms of bringing success.
