The Liverpool star is in a bit of hot water over his perceived theatrics.
It seems like former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg might’ve picked up a tell on Liverpool star Mo Salah.
Salah is coming under fire after winning yet another very dubious penalty for Liverpool in Saturday’s 4-3 win over Crystal Palace.
The Egypt international went to ground under a challenge from Mamadou Sakho, but television replays suggest that the French defender never made contact.
The 26-year-old also won and scored controversial penalties against Newcastle and Arsenal in recent weeks.
And Clattenburg believes that he knows how to tell whether Salah’s fall is genuine or not.
“As he is Liverpool’s penalty taker, he will know winning a spot-kick means he has a free shot at goal,” he told The Daily Mail.
“He is then likely to increase his chances of winning the Golden Boot. One thing I have noticed is that when Salah goes down to try to win penalties, his hands go above his head.
“This is what officials look for when trying to see if a player has simulated. Usually, if you are knocked over, you put your hands straight out to break your fall.”
It’s a very interesting bit of insight and no doubt Premier League referees will be more sensitive to his perceived theatrics in the future, on the back of what Clattenburg has said.
Controversy aside, Liverpool remain top of the Premier League and four points clear of Manchester City.
If Salah does not buck up his ideas then it’s only a matter of time before he is given a retrospective ban, which is the last thing Jurgen Klopp will want as the Reds eye a first league title in 29 years.
