Mark Burchill has told Deadline News that Dorus de Vries will star for Celtic against Rangers this weekend.

Celtic will take on Old Firm rivals Rangers at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday afternoon.

De Vries, who joined the Bhoys from Championship club Nottingham Forest in the summer transfer window, is likely to start the encounter for Brendan Rodgers’s side.

Former Celtic striker Burchill played with the 35-year-old goalkeeper at Scottish club Dunfermline Athletic.

The former Portsmouth and Rotherham United man has predicted De Vries to rise to the occasion against Rangers.

Burchill has also backed his former club Celtic to pick up all three points from the encounter at Celtic Park.

“He’ll handle the pressure no problem at all,” Burchill told Deadline News about De Vries. “He’s a very loud, abrasive character for his defenders, in the way he commands people, and he’s a very self-assured, confident guy. It won’t bother him at all.

“He’s played in loads of big games down in English football for years. Obviously Saturday is going to be different.

“But he’s a top keeper and he’ll rise to the occasion, I’ve absolutely no doubt whatsoever.”

“In big games you need experience and Rangers have got that,” added Burchill. “But I really can’t see past Celtic, with the way they’re playing.”

De Vries is a good goalkeeper and has already made his competitive debut for Celtic.

The former Swansea City and Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper will relish the chance to play in the Old Firm derby.

The Dutchman has been involved in big games before, and he will not be fazed by the occasion on Saturday afternoon.

Celtic are at the top of the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with nine points from three matches. The Hoops are a point clear of second-placed Rangers with a game in hand.
