Aston Villa will be playing Premier League football next season.
Mark Bosnich has urged Aston Villa to keep hold of the players that helped them earn promotion to the Premier League as he stated that it wouldn’t be the ‘right thing to do’.
Dean Smith, his coaching staff and those in the boardroom have a big summer ahead of them because they will now be planning for life in the Premier League.
It means that their transfer plans are now going to drastically change as they will be aiming to sign players of much higher quality, but it could also mean some current players may depart.
Speaking to the Alan Brazil Breakfast Show on TalkSport (28/05/2019 at 8:10 am), former Villa goalkeeper Bosnich understands that Smith and Co. need to add to their squad, but he thinks he should keep faith with those who got the club to where they are.
“I hope they don’t get rid of anyone,” Bosnich told TalkSport. “I just don’t think it’s the right thing to do. They [the current players] have got them up to the Premier League. They need to add and they’ll know that.
“They’ll have a good celebration and they deserve it. Then the coaching staff will sit down with the manager and somebody at the club and they’ll go through exactly the positions they need to strengthen in. It’s so, so important they don’t go straight back down.”
It remains to be seen what type of players Villa will sign, but given Smith’s philosophy of wanting to play attacking football and giving youngsters a chance, it is pretty logical to see what road the club will go down.
Throughout this season, Villa have had a number of loan players on their books from Tyrone Mings to Tammy Abraham, once again, it remains to be seen how many of those players are still at Villa next term.
Then there are those who are out-of-contract, some have played a bit-part role under Smith, whilst others have been regulars, but once again that doesn’t guarantee them a place in his squad for next season.
