Rangers are still on the hunt for a new central defender.

Rangers’ hunt for their third central defensive signing of the summer has taken a new twist, with the Scottish giants now reportedly interested in experienced Bolton Wanderers stopper Mark Beevers.
The Daily Express claim Steven Gerrard’s side are interested in the 28-year-old defender, who missed just two of Bolton’s 46 Championship outings last season – as the club survived the drop.
Beevers joined Bolton from Millwall in the summer of 2016 and was arguably one of the most consistent centre-backs in the Championship last term. Now, he could be available on the cheap.
Rangers were previously interested in Millwall’s Jake Cooper, but had multiple bids rejected for the £3million-rated centre-back and have now seemingly dropped their interest in the impressive stopper.
But Beevers is likely to be available for a much cheaper price than Cooper, with the Bolton defender five years older than Cooper – but more importantly, Beevers is in the final year of his contract.
The two defenders have little to choose between them, with Cooper perhaps boasting more potential whereas Beevers offers huge experience from England’s Football League – turning out 375 times in the Championship and League One.

It remains to be seen what Bolton’s asking price for Beevers is, but Phil Parkinson’s side will surely be keen to bring in a fee for the former England youth international rather than letting him go on a free next summer.
With little to choose between Cooper and 6ft 3in Beevers, Rangers would certainly be making a shrewder decision in signing the latter.
