Whether or not Alfredo Morelos leaves Rangers this summer, it seems that the Gers will be interested in bringing a new striker to Ibrox.

Kyle Lafferty has made no impact this season and may leave, so a physical threat to complement Morelos and veteran Jermain Defoe would be ideal.

Rangers appear to have found a player to fit that bill, as the Daily Record report that Mark Allen has identified Osijek hitman Mirko Maric as a potential £3million signing.

Maric, 23, is a physical presence at 6ft 2in tall, and has been in great form this season, scoring 17 goals in 39 games whilst also recording four assists.

The Croatian could be a smart signing, but Allen would be taking a monumental gamble by luring Maric to Ibrox given how his two previous signings from Osijek have fared.

Allen brought left back Borna Barisic and winger Eros Grezda to Rangers from Osijek last summer, but they’ve become huge flops in their first seasons at Ibrox.

The duo are barely featuring, and were left out of the Rangers squad to face Aberdeen on Sunday, with Steven Gerrard seemingly prepared to let both leave at the end of the season.

Going back to sign another Osijek player – after seeing Barisic and Grezda become expensive outcasts – may only serve to anger the Rangers fans who want real impact players this summer, and Allen must be 100% sure on Maric if he’s to make such a bold move after his notable failures.
