Rangers Director of Football Mark Allen has provided fans with an update on his approach to the final few weeks of the summer transfer window, speaking to the club’s official website.

The Ibrox side have so far managed to sign up eight players to Steven Gerrard’s squad, seven of them on permanent deals and another on loan.

Securing the future of players such as last season’s loan signing Steven Davis while adding talent like Joe Aribo and FIlip Helander to the squad, Allen is happy with the dealings of the club so far.

However, there’s always room for more and Allen has refused to rule out the possibility of more players arriving, while acknowledging the bulk of their business is done.

He told rangers.co.uk: “I always say never say never.

“The transfer window closes in the early part of September this year, so we will go right to the wire, and like all things, if we think there is something out there which can add to what we have already got and we think will make us better, my job is to make that case to the board and see where we get to.”

Fans then can hold out hope for a bit of transfer action late in the transfer window, with Allen and his team hoping to make some shrewd manoeuvres if the right players become available.

Depth in Gerrard’s squad is looking pretty healthy right now but the departure of Daniel Candeias to the Turkish top-flight could leave them in need of a right-sided winger.

The Portuguese provided an important attacking contribution last term and the Ibrox boss might feel he needs a bit more experienced competition for Sheyi Ojo.

It’s clear though from Allen’s words that the intention is to take things carefully over the next few weeks. There’s no need to make big changes to the squad as is and no need for panic buys.

Rangers have worked early to build a squad that can challenge for multiple trophies in Scotland this season and the focus will be on making sure they blend together and find top form when the Scottish Premiership kicks off next month.
