Rangers have this evening confirmed that Motherwell winger Jake Hastie has signed a pre-contract agreement with the club, committing his future until 2023.

The Gers have already tied up one summer arrival, with Kilmarnock winger Jordan Jones signing a pre-contract deal earlier this year, and now it’s number two with Hastie.

Hastie, 20, spent the first half of this season out on loan at Alloa Athletic, and whilst he showed potential, few could have expected him to be heading to Rangers in a matter of months.

The winger returned to Motherwell in January and went from strength to strength, impressing many with his pace and power down the right flank, as well as his ability to cut in on his dangerous left foot.

Hastie has hit seven goals in 14 games for Motherwell in 2019, and with his contract coming to an end, Rangers have moved in to sign him on a pre-contract agreement.

Hastie should offer real right-sided competition for Daniel Candeias, and whilst we’ve only seen glimpses of his quality, he has the potential to be a star for Rangers.

Now, Rangers director of football Mark Allen – who has come in for criticism during his time at Ibrox – has offered his view on Hastie to the club’s official website.

Allen has admitted that he’s delighted to land Hastie, before hinting that more business – both incoming and outgoing – will be coming at Ibrox.

“We are delighted to add such a talented and young Scottish player to our team for next season,” said Hastie. “We are committed to improving the strength of our squad and this is part of that process. There will be some departures and we hope for a few arrivals which will add greater quality,” he added.
