Mark Allen has lived up to his specific July hint about Rangers’ transfer plans

Rangers have continued to bring top talents in Croatia to Ibrox.

Rangers advanced into the group stage of the Europa League this evening – and should have two new signings to announce off the back of their exploits.

The Gers beat Ufa 2-1 on aggregate to make it to the group stage, and Rangers are expected to confirm the arrivals of defender Joe Worrall and winger Eros Grezda imminently.

Worrall will boost Rangers’ defensive options, but wide man Grezda is another intriguing signing for the Gers in what has been a busy summer, with the duo set to make it 14 signings since Gerrard’s appointment.

Grezda is the third signing from Croatian football this summer, and the second from recent Europa League opponents Osijek, following former teammate Borna Barisic to Ibrox, as well as former Slaven Belupo defender Nikola Katic.

Some have been surprised by Rangers’ continued pursuit of players in Croatia, but the signs were there after the Katic deal in July.

Director of football Mark Allen spoke to Rangers TV after securing his signature, and suggested that whilst the Gers were new into the Croatian market, they knew a lot about it, and hinted that Rangers were considering other deals there.

Since then, Barisic has arrived – and impressed – whilst Grezda’s signature is imminent too, meaning Allen has certainly lived up to the hint about Rangers’ transfer plans.

With Albanian international Grezda set to make it three signings from Croatia, it would be little surprise to see Rangers continue to go to this particular transfer well, and will hope to get great value out of it; after all, Katic, Barisic and Grezda have collectively cost just over £5million – and it’s no wonder that Rangers are suddenly very, very active in Croatia based on that value.
