Arfield has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Ibrix with Rangers.

Rangers director of football Mark Allen has explained that the calibre of Scott Arfield is the reason why the Gers have pounced to sign the midfielder – as well as confirming that he comes with Steven Gerrard’s blessing.
Arfield, 29, has put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the Scottish giants in a deal that will see the Canada international move to Ibrox on a free transfer as his deal at Burnley was set to expire on June 30.
The former Huddersfield Town star joins Rangers as Gerrard’s first signing, with a busy summer expected at Ibrox as the Gers look to close the gap between themselves and Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Allen told media in a press conference streamed by Rangers’ official Youtube channel that Arfield’s reputation and experience was the reason they signed the ex-Falkirk star – as well as Gerrard’s approval.
“To get the opportunity to sign a player of Scott’s ability, stature, career and character is something that was very easy for us to pursue,” Allen said. “We’re delighted that he is joining us today.
“The manager [Gerrard] is fully conversed with this signing as a part of my conversations with him. Prior to Gerrard joining, he was made aware of the target players. He was more than happy to endorse Scott.
“The signing comes with the manager’s blessing.”

Arfield left Falkirk back in 2010 to join Huddersfield, and clocked up a huge 108 Scottish Premiership outings with the Dark Blues in which he scored 13 goals.
However, the versatile midfielder is likely to join Rangers a better player, after 86 appearances in the English Premier League. His signing could increases what is already huge competition in midfield.
Preferred out wide, Arfield will have to fight the likes of in-form Jamie Murphy, Player of the Season Daniel Candeias and top scorer Josh Windass.
