Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers have brought Nikola Katic to Ibrox, and the Gers’ director of football Mark Allen explains the decision.
The Gers have signed Katic from Belupo in the summer transfer window for a fee reported by The Scottish Sun to be worth £2 million.
Not many Rangers fans will have known much about Katic, who is a 21-year-old central defender and is a Croatia international.
Rangers director of football Allen has explained the Ibrox club’s decision to sign the youngster, which the Gers’ fans will find very reassuring.
Allen told The Scottish Sun: “I am very conscious of that market. I think there are some excellent players in that neck of the woods.
“Very good technically, very robust and strong. Nikola was on a target list for us for some time. We are well aware of him and it became a case of making sure that all the dots joined.
“Making sure all the clips and all the information we had on him added up, making sure there was a meeting of the minds and then going back to the club and seeing what we could do.”
Succeeding at Rangers
Katic arrived at Rangers having established himself as a key player at Belupo, although the youngster could take a while to settle in at Ibrox.
It can be daunting for any young player playing in front of 50,000 fans at Ibrox, and it will be interesting to see if Rangers manager Steven Gerrard includes him in the starting lineup right at the start of the season or whether he gradually makes him part of his team.
