As announced on Rangers’ official website, Kirkwood has been handed the role of Loans Manager at the Scottish Premiership club.
The 60-year-old former Dundee United star was already working in a similar role within the Rangers’ Academy.
Rangers Director of Football Allen has explained why the club decided to make Kirkwood the Loans Manager.
Allen told Rangers’ official website: “We have gone internally as we believe we have the right person in Billy Kirkwood. When you look at Billy, he ticks every single box.
“He has been a manager, he has been a player, he knows the Academy system inside out and back to front, and he is everything that we want and has everything we want in terms of being able to develop those boys.
“He has the boys’ ear, they have high regard for him and he is well-respected. If it is on your doorstep, why should you look elsewhere?”

Glenn Middleton delight
Rangers winger Glenn Middleton has taken to social networking site Twitter to express his delight at signing a new contract with the Gers.
As announced on Rangers’ official website, the 18-year-old Scotland Under-21 international winger has put pen to paper on a new deal that will see him stay at Ibrox until the summer of 2023.
Middleton joined Rangers from Norwich City in England in January 2018.
Former Rangers star Lee McCulloch has responded to Middleton’s message on Twitter.
