According to Fabrizio Romano, Nottingham Forest are now closing in on the signing of Atalanta captain Remo Freuler.
What’s the story?
Well, the reliable Italian journalist believes Steve Cooper and Miltiadis Marinakis are about to pull off a “huge signing” at the City Ground.
Nottingham Forest had earmarked the Switzerland international as their top target this summer, and are offering him a deal worth £30,000-a-week to ditch Atalanta to come to the Premier League.
Romano believes a medical has now been booked, and the 30-year-old will sign a contract running until June 2025.
Nottingham Forest are paying a fee of €9m (£8m) for Freuler, which seems very cheap given the fact he has a contract with the Serie A side until June 2025, and is considered a leader amongst the squad.
Romano adds that Marinakis played a key role in the deal, showing ambition to strengthen Cooper’s squad.
Freuler’s move to the Premier League comes after he made 43 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring two goals while also providing six assists.
Remo Freuler could be vital for Nottingham Forest
In our view, this could be the signing which helps the rest of Marinakis and Cooper’s signings gel at the City Ground.
As aforesaid, Freuler wore the captain’s armband for Atalanta, and his experience should prove vital in helping the younger players acclimatise to a higher level – even though this will be his first taste of football in England.

The Swiss midfielder also boasts a vast amount of Champions League experience, making 21 appearances in Europe’s greatest club competition, as well as 14 outings in the Europa League.
If Freuler can settle quickly, he could prove pivotal to Nottingham Forest this season.
Keep an eye on this situation, as the deal should be made official once he passes a medical and signs his contract.
