Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford will hope to bounce back from his England penalty woe, but won’t be facing Leeds United on the opening day of the Premier League season.
Rashford hit the post in England’s penalty shootout defeat to Italy on Sunday, with the Three Lions coming up short in the Euro 2020 final.
Rashford has sadly received ridiculous abuse online since Sunday night, and his hopes of bouncing back with United have suffered a dent.
The attacker is having surgery on his shoulder and will be out until October, meaning he misses the first two months of the new Premier League campaign.
On the one hand, Leeds may be relieved that they don’t have to face Rashford on the opening weekend of the season, but his injury could also serve as a blow to Victor Orta.
The Daily Mail reported last weekend that Leeds are once again chasing a deal for Daniel James, who came so close to joining the Whites back in January 2019.
Leeds are in the market for another winger this summer as they look to offer support to Jack Harrison and Raphinha, and James makes sense as a target.

Orta and Marcelo Biella are clearly big fans of James, and United’s deal to sign Jadon Sancho may have given Leeds hope of finally securing the Welsh international.
However, James may now be needed at Old Trafford in light of Rashford’s injury, offering depth down the left flank until Rashford returns.
He’s more experienced than the likes of Amad Diallo and Anthony Elanga, so more likely to be trusted by boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer whilst battling with Anthony Martial.
James may well be available come January, but for now, it looks like Rashford’s injury will block Leeds from making a move now.
