Paul Merson has told Sky Sports that reported Arsenal target and Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is going backwards.
The former Arsenal star made the comments about Rashford, linked with a move to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the summer transfer window, while discussing the progress that Gunners youngster Bukayo Saka is making.
Well-known and well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on Twitter this month that Rashford is considering his future at Manchester United.
90min have reported that Arsenal are among the clubs who are keen on securing the services of the forward in the summer transfer window.
Merson told Sky Sports: “When you look at Bukayo Saka now and then at Marcus Rashford, it’s strange to see how one just keeps going forward, and the other is going backwards, at the moment.
“A year or two years ago it was Rashford who was flying, but at the moment Saka is making all the right decisions. Everything he is doing at the moment is coming off for him. He is at the top of his game.”

Marcus Rashford could flourish at Arsenal
In our view, Rashford – who earns £200,000 per week as salary (Spotrac) – could flourish at Arsenal if he made the move from Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old England international forward is not doing well at Old Trafford at the moment and appears to have stagnated.
Now, we know that Saka is growing and developing at Arsenal, but under manager Mikel Arteta, Rashford could also do well.
Arsenal have a very young team, and Rashford would fit in well at the Emirates Stadium.
