Sunderland were beaten 3-0 by Peterborough United earlier this season, which is still Jack Ross’s side’s only defeat.

Peterborough United forward Marcus Maddison has admitted to Sky Sports that he loved scoring against Sunderland this season.

Maddison helped Posh to a 3-0 win over Sunderland earlier in the month, and his performance in the contest earned him great praise.

The attacker scored twice for Darren Ferguson’s men, as they picked up a win over the Black Cats.

Maddison celebrated his goals in style, as he was spotted out in Peterborough in the evening, and some Sunderland fans criticised him on social media.

But Maddison admits that he doesn’t let the negative comments bring him down.

“It was very nice to score against my boyhood club,” Maddison said.

“It’s not disheartening at all. The public are down to say what they need to say. If I go out and enjoy myself after a good result, or I go out any time and enjoy myself, I’m sure people have got something to say.”

Maddison was actually heavily linked with Sunderland over the summer, but Jack Ross’s side opted against signing him.

Sunderland may be regretting that decision now, as the 25-year-old has been in sparking form for Posh, and scooped the League One Player of the Month award for August.

Sunderland and Posh both look to be among the leading contenders for promotion this season, with both sides sitting in the play off spots at this early stage of the campaign.
