Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly selling Marcus Edwards to Udinese.
Tottenham Hotspur have had high hopes for Marcus Edwards for many years, but his time with the club appears to be coming to an end.
Having made his first-team debut in 2016, Edwards was touted for stardom, having caught the eye with his dribbling ability, creativity and great left foot.
However, Edwards hasn’t progressed as hoped, and has spent time out on loan with Norwich City and Excelsior – but now looks set for a permanent exit.
TuttoUdinese claim that Edwards is set to sign for Udinese, and has even arrived in Udine to complete a surprise move to the Serie A side.
Heading off to Italy is a real surprise for Edwards, but there may well be involvement from a Premier League side, given Watford’s links with Udinese.
Giampaolo Pozzo owns both clubs, and that means that players have moved freely between the two sides in recent years, with Fotbollskanalen back in Sweden claiming Ken Sema is set to leave Watford for Udinese.
Watford will surely have one eye on Edwards’ progress with Udinese as having him in the Pozzo portfolio may give them access to a talent English player without having to negotiate with Spurs, who may not want to see him join a Premier League rival.
If Edwards can fulfil his potential, it would be little surprise to see him return to England with Watford thanks to those links to Udinese, and the Hornets may sneakily have a view to land Edwards for the future – where he could end up facing Spurs.
