Marcus Edwards impressing on loan even more important with Tottenham eyeing Norwich teammate

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Marcus Edwards has moved to the Championship for a loan spell until the end of the season.

With Mauricio Pochettino proving during his time in charge of Tottenham that he is not afraid to give youngsters a chance in the first-team if they are ready, every starlet who leaves the Premier League side on loan knows that he has a real opportunity to stake a claim to the Spurs boss ahead of their return.

For Marcus Edwards however, perhaps it would be fair to suggest that he is under additional pressure to make the most of his time away with Norwich City given who he is set to rival for a place in the Canaries team.

Edwards is undoubtedly one of the brightest prospects coming through at Tottenham, but he has struggled to earn a chance in the first-team with just one senior appearance under his belt – and that came last season when Spurs faced Gillingham in the EFL Cup.

And now he may feel that it is imperative that he makes the most of his chance at Carrow Road as he is now teammates with James Maddison, who is making a big impact for Daniel Farke’s side this season.

Maddison, 21, has been brilliant this term, scoring seven times and providing five assists in his 25 Championship appearances to prove their most creative player by quite some distance, and Tottenham are certainly aware of him.

The Daily Mirror reported earlier this month that Spurs were amongst the host of Premier League sides plotting a summer move for Maddison. And his parent club winning the race may prove to be bad news for fellow attacking midfielder Edwards and may mean that the 19-year-old is in for another frustrating spell.

Therefore, Edwards would be forgiven for worrying that if he is outshone by his new teammate during the coming months, it may make his task with Spurs much more difficult as Pochettino should now find it easier to compare the two men. And if Maddison outperforms Edwards, he may be more confident that he is definitely the kind of player that they should be targeting.
