Tottenham Hotspur play Gillingham in the League Cup later this month.
While we are currently forced to sit through another international break, the domestic action will soon return with Tottenham Hotspur set to kick off their Champions League and EFL Cup campaigns before the end of the month.
The former will see Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino go strong as he attempts to get his side off to the best possible start against AS Monaco, while the latter could see some of the club’s next generation given a chance to impress.
Tottenham fans have grown used to seeing younger players take to the field with Josh Onomah, Harry Winks and the like blooded in recent times, but the match against Gillingham later this month could see one of the club’s brightest prospects finally make his competitive debut.
Marcus Edwards may only be 17 but he has developed quite the reputation among Spurs supporters, to such an extent that when he finally appeared for the first-team in pre-season the excitement was tangible.
The midfielder did not disappoint, and having recently put pen to paper on a new two-year deal he will now be hoping to get some competitive senior football under his belt.
The match against Gillingham on September 20 is the perfect opportunity and Pochettino will surely have no qualms throwing him in after his performances over the summer against some of Europe’s top clubs.
Superb teenage centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers should also take the step up after making the bench for Tottenham’s first three league games of the campaign, but it is Edwards whose star could ultimately shine brightest.
