Back in early August, Tottenham Hotspur finally reached an agreement with wonderkid Marcus Edwards over a new contract.
The 17-year-old had been at an impasse with the club for months, with The Guardian reporting Spurs had made their first offer back in December, and were worried he could be poached by a rival club.

At the end of the transfer window the man mentoring him moved on, with under-18s coach Kieran McKenna making a surprise switch to take a job at Manchester United.
This was disappointing news for Tottenham, but timing wise it was fortunate he did not move before Edwards tied up his new contract.

The England youth international is the crown jewel in Tottenham’s youth system, and he surely would have been the first name on McKenna’s list of players to target upon arrival at Manchester United.
It remains to be seen if he will go after any Spurs talents, but Edwards would have been too good a prospect to ignore, given the fact he was unsigned.
His contract takes him up until 2018, meaning Tottenham are in control of his rights, and can reject any offer should United or anybody else come in for him.
The move to finally get him tied down, days after he impressed in pre-season looked shrewd at the time, but it seems even more important now.
