Marcus Edwards comments on Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino

Marcus Edwards left Tottenham Hotspur for Vitoria de Guimaraes in the summer transfer window.

Vitoria de Guimaraes youngster Marcus Edwards has criticised Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino, as quoted in The Times.

Edwards, who can operate as a winger or as an attacking midfielder, believes that it was harsh of Tottenham boss Pochettino to state that he has attitude problems.

Prior to the 20-year-old’s debut for Tottenham in 2016, Pochettino compared him to Barcelona legend Lionel Messi, and later in his autobiography, wrote that he has “authority and behavioural problems”, as quoted in The Daily Mail.

The youngster left Tottenham in the summer of 2019 and moved to Vitoria in Portugal.

Edwards told The Times: “That was the bit that was harsh and set off rumours as I did not show any authority issues. When I was growing up maybe I did have a bit of an attitude problem.

“When Poch said it I was a bit confused as I did not show that. I thought I had changed. In the academy they knew me from when I was young, it is different. When I went to Norwich it stuck. They kill you from there.”

Back in North London

Edwards is back in North London this evening, as Vitoria face Arsenal in the Europa League.

The attacking player is starting for the Portuguese club, who are underdogs against Unai Emery’s side.

Arsenal will head into the match as firm favourites, but perhaps a masterclass display from Edwards could see Vitoria stage a stunning win at the Emirates Stadium this evening.
