Marcus Antonsson has suggested to the Yorkshire Evening Post that he lost his confidence at Leeds United.

Antonsson was brought to Leeds in the summer of 2016, but he endured a torrid first campaign at Elland Road.

The Swedish striker barely featured in the league during his first year with Leeds, as Chris Wood monopolised the striking position at the Yorkshire club.

Antonsson has now been sent out on loan to League One side Blackburn Rovers, where he has enjoyed mixed success.

Antonsson has played fairly regularly for Rovers, and has even scored three times.

The latest of these strikes came during Blackburn’s last home match against Rotherham United.

And Antonsson admits that he is still playing his way back into form, after struggling so badly at Leeds last term.

“I really needed that,” he said. “It was a big relief to slide on my knees in front of the fans.

“I haven’t been happy with my performances. I’ve been looking for my confidence in games and in training. It was a while ago that I played competitive games but I still feel I’ve got so much more to give.”

Whether Antonsson has any hope of breaking back into Leeds’ team in the future remains to be seen.

The Whites have brought in a number of attackers in recent months, with Thomas Christiansen’s forward options strong.

Antonsson’s next match for Blackburn is likely to come after the international break, when Tony Mowbray’s side take on Oldham Athletic.
