The former Leeds United boss was pleased with the performance of the Italian second-choice stopper.

Neil Redfearn has spoken to TV Yorkshire regarding Leeds United’s EFL Cup win against Blackburn Rovers last night, and had special praise for the club’s goalkeeper on the night Marco Silvestri.
The Italian has lost his place as number one at Elland Road following the arrival of Robert Green on a free transfer from QPR in the summer.
But whilst Garry Monk may not be considering him for league action Silvestri, who deleted Twitter recently over accusations he had favourited an article suggesting Monk was braced for the sack, has been used in the cup.
He performed well against Blackburn and former Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn was certainly pleased with his performance, hailing one save as ‘world-class’ in his post-match analysis for TV Yorkshire:
“The stuff he had to deal with he did very well. He made a couple of really outstanding saves, one in particular that was a world-class save.

“We know that his shit stopping is good.
“By and large his bread and butter stuff was good as well. His handling from crosses and his kicking.”
Silvestri is, no doubt, a spectacular shot-stopper.
However, his form was often blighted by the odd mistake and his ability to handle crosses in the English game.
But the Italian is still clearly considered by Monk to be a big part of the Leeds squad.
Should anything happen to Green this season it looks like, judging on this performance, the Italian will be ready to step up.
