Things aren’t looking great for the former Leeds United man in Italy.
It’s safe to say that Marco Silvestri is not in the thick of things at Hellas Verona.
Silvestri left Leeds to join the Serie A club in July but the Italian goalkeeper is still waiting to make his debut.
Last season under Garry Monk, the 26-year-old was limited to League and FA Cup games due to Rob Green’s evergreen form, but in Italy he does not even get chances in the lesser competitions, evident by the fact that Nicholas – who keeps him out of the first XI in Serie A – also started their Coppa Italia win over Avellino.
As a result of his lack of action, it means that Silvestri has not played a single minute of league football for United or Hellas since May 2016, when Steve Evans was Leeds manager.
His plight is something of a shame because he did remind Leeds fans of his talent last season with a host of impressive displays in the Whites’ exciting League Cup adventure, which ended in the quarter-final stage at Liverpool.
He and Green made way for Felix Wiedwald and Andy Lonergan in the summer and you could argue that the Elland Road club have gone backwards in that department.
Wiedwald, a £500,000 signing from Werder Bremen, hasn’t covered himself in glory, while 33-year-old Lonergan joined after his contract with Wolves expired.
