Everton manager Marco Silva has told The Times that he wants Barcelona-owned central midfielder and reported Tottenham Hotspur target Andre Gomes at the club next season.

Gomes joined Everton on a season-long loan deal from Barcelona in the summer of 2018.

The Portugal international has been superb for the Toffees and has made himself very popular among the Goodison Park faithful.

According to WhoScored, Gomes has made 24 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Merseyside outfit this season, scoring one goal in the process.

Everton manager Silva has suggested that he wants to keep Gomes at the Toffees next season, and he has also give his take on speculation linking the 25-year-old with other clubs.

According to The Times, Everton’s Premier League rivals Tottenham are keen on securing the services of Gomes this summer.

Silva told The Times: “Let’s see what Barcelona’s decision is about him, if they want to sell the player or not.

“Then we will see Andre’s decision and, in the end, let’s see what we can do. It is up to us to do what we can to keep our best players in our squad.

“If the player is linked with other good, strong clubs in the Premier League, it shows he has quality.”

Tough for Everton?

Gomes has done well at Everton, but the Toffees could struggle to keep hold of the Portuguese midfielder if Tottenham make an offer.

After all, Spurs are likely to play in the Champions League next season and will also be challenging for the Premier League title.

However, Tottenham do not tend to spend a lot of money in transfer windows, and Everton could pay Barcelona more than Spurs for the former Valencia star.
