Everton manager Marco Silva has suggested to the club’s official website that Bernard could start against Southampton this evening.

The Toffees will take on Premier League rivals Southampton at Goodison Park in the third round of the Carabao Cup in a few hours’ time.

Silva has suggested that 26-year-old Brazil international winger Bernard could start against the Saints.

“It is possible he could start,” Silva told Everton’s official website. “Since Bernard arrived I’ve said he is a player that is different to others.

“I’m sure in the present and in the future he will do fantastic things for us. Not just because of his qualities but because he fits well into our Club and he is a fighter as well.”

Progress

Bernard joined Everton in the summer transfer window on a free after leaving Shakhtar Donetsk at the end of the 2017-18 campaign.

The 26-year-old winger has played just 71 minutes in the Premier League for the Toffees so far this season, according to WhoScored.

The Brazilian has yet to make a start for the Merseyside outfit, but it seems that he could be included in the Everton starting lineup against Southampton.

Everton are 11th in the Premier League table at the moment with nine points from seven matches, six points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

The Toffees will be determined to win against the Saints this evening and progress in the Carabao Cup.
