Everton boss Marco Silva has had stern words with his squad, after what has been a poor start to the season.

Marco Silva, Manager of Everton looks on prior to the Premier League match between AFC Bournemouth and Everton FC at Vitality Stadium on September 15, 2019 in Bournemouth, United Kingdom.

Marco Silva has told the Daily Mirror that he warned Everton’s players that they cannot hide, despite the rising pressure at Goodison Park.

Everton have made a poor start to the season, and frustrations rose at the weekend, as the Toffees were beaten 2-0 by newly promoted Sheffield United.

Everton just couldn’t break down the Blades, as they failed to show the creativity required to work many strong opportunities.

Silva’s side had been tipped to be among the leading contenders to break into the top six this season.

However, Everton’s poor start has left serious questions being asked.

And Silva admits he has had to have stern words with his players after their latest defeat.

“The moment is like I am here with you, and I said it inside the dressing room too – there is nowhere we can hide, we have to show stronger character and personality,” he said.

“The Sheffield Wednesday game is really important yes. Now I don’t want anyone hiding, not me, not them. It is a moment for us to go and play football and to take responsibility as well.

“In the second half (against Sheffield United) I didn’t see that ability. Football is about playing, and showing strong character.”

Everton’s defeat against Sheffield United has left them sat in 14th place in the Premier League table, after collecting just seven points from their first six games.

The Toffees now face a tough game this evening against Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup, and they are under serious pressure to avoid an upset.
