Everton manager Marco Silva has revealed to The Telegraph the conversation he had with Gylfi Sigurdsson in pre-season.

Sigurdsson joint Everton from Swansea City in the summer of 2017 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £45 million and when Ronald Koeman was in charge of the Toffees.

The former Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder did not have a great time with the Toffees last season, as the Iceland international was able to score only four goals and provided just three assists in 25 Premier League starts, according to WhoScored.

Everton manager Silva has revealed his discussion with Sigurdsson in pre-season, and he has also revealed what the former Spurs man has told him about his game this campaign.

Silva told The Telegraph about Sigurdsson: “I told him I believe in him and his quality and then it was up to him to prove his quality and he deserved a role in the eleven.

“He is doing everything, trying and improving. I was clear with him like I was with all of them.

“I think it is possible he is enjoying (playing further upfield), because he told me, but I know he is ready to play in different positions as well, and I have an idea what is possible in different positions when he can perform in a better way.”

Important player

Sigurdsson is one of the best and most creative midfielders in the Premier League, and the Iceland international will be an important player for Everton this season.
