The Everton centre-back has struggled with injuries since his move to Merseyside.
Everton boss Marco Silva spoke to reporters today, ahead of his side’s clash with Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday, and responded when asked whether Yerry Mina will start against the west London outfit, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
The big Colombian joined the Toffees from Barcelona in the summer, for a fee believed to be worth somewhere in the region of £27 million, but he has spent most of his time at Goodison Park on the sidelines with an injury.
He made his Premier League debut against Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend, however, appearing as a 89th minute substitute, before playing the full 90 against Kenyan side Gor Mahia on Tuesday in the SportPesa Trophy.
Silva addressed the media today, and praised the quality of Mina, before responding when asked whether the 6ft 5in centre-back would start Sunday’s game away at Chelsea, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo:
“His quality on the pitch is a little bit different to a player like Zouma but for sure he’ll bring quality to our squad.”
“No. The players will know [the starting XI] some hours before the match. We are working for the match. It’s possible [the players] have an idea of my team but it’s not my way [to tell them the starting XI.]”
Everton will have to be at their very best of they are to have any chance whatsoever of beating Chelsea, and having Mina fit and available for selection will be a huge boost to their chances of doing just that.
