Watford boss Marco Silva took a swipe at Everton’s Sam Allardyce after recent claims made by the Toffees manager.

Silva and Allardyce seemed to be the two main protagonists in the Toffees’ search for their new manager following Ronald Koeman’s departure from Goodison Park earlier in the season.

Allardyce’s arrival seemed to be met with little enthusiasm amongst the Everton fans, and he seemed to respond to that by suggesting that Silva’s managerial record does not compete with his, as reported by the Mirror.
But the Hornets boss has responded to Allardyce’s comments, and insisted that it is unfair to compare the two, using Big Sam’s England tenure – which, of course, lasted just one game – to help make his point.

“I read what he said, but when he made this comparison it does not make sense,” he said, as reported by the Mirror. “It is the same thing if I compare his work with a national team coach like Gareth Southgate.
“It’s like me comparing the five goals Richarlison has scored in the Premier League with Peter Crouch. Crouch is nearly 37, Richarlison is 20 – Crouch has played so many games (669) and Richarlison far less.”
It was certainly unfair from Allardyce to criticise Silva given that he has been managing in the Premier League for less than a year – especially when you consider what a major impression he has made in that time.
And with many Everton fans seemingly wanting the Portuguese over Allardyce while the Toffees were searching for their new manager, the latter has surely put major pressure on himself to make sure that his side now close the four-point gap to Silva’s men in the top flight in the coming months.
