In December 2018, The Daily Mail reported of interest from Celtic and West Ham United in Everton central midfielder Tom Davies.

It was reported that Celtic and West Ham had made enquires about the availability of Davies, who was struggling for playing time at Everton at the time.

According to the report, Lee Congerton, Celtic’s Director of Football, was especially keen on the 20-year-old central midfielder.

Davies did not leave Goodison Park in the January transfer window and remains part of the Everton first team.

The England Under-21 international was the captain of the Toffees against Manchester City in midfielder, and Everton manager Marco Silva has suggested that he could wear the captain’s armband in the future.

Silva told The Liverpool Echo about Davies becoming long-term Everton captain: “He has the quality to do good things to help our team and for us to see him enjoying his football also. But let’s see what happens in the future.

“In the last game we didn’t play with our three captains, but we have Tom and Gylfi who can do that role also.

“Let’s see. We hope he can continue improving his football at our club and the future will show if Tom is to be our captain or not.”

Future at Everton?

Silva’s aforementioned comments suggest that he considers Davies as part of the first team for the future.

With the youngster growing in stature and captaining the team, it is hard to see Everton or Silva send him out on loan in the summer of 2019.
