Everton have finished the 2018/19 Premier League campaign in eighth place.
Marco Silva has shared that Everton were told to ‘stick together’ at Finch Farm earlier on in the season as he praised the club for doing just that during their tough periods this term.
At the turn of the year, The Toffees went through a sticky period when their Premier League form was a little indifferent and they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship side Millwall.
But Silva and his players came through that period to produce a number of positive results and performances, including beating the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United on home soil.
Speaking to Match of the Day on BBC One in his post-match interview after his team recorded a 2-2 draw at Tottenham (12/05/2019), Silva shared his thoughts on Everton going to the next level.
“To be a big club you have to have all this history behind you, all this culture behind you,” Silva told MOTD. “A big fan base, which we have also. Sold out every time our stadium. Our fans come everywhere to support us.
“Big passion behind the team. Big pressure also because they want to see good things also, so it is up to us to keep doing the right things. And one of the key for us inside our club, inside Finch Farm this season was, we stick together. During that period we had, we stuck together.”
On the last day of the Premier League season, Everton recorded a 2-2 draw at Champions League finalists Tottenham to end the campaign in eighth place.
There are many positives to take from their season and they will be looking to go one better in the next campaign. But what happens in the summer will play a big part in how they perform.
One area the Merseyside club may look to add depth in is their centre-forward area. If Silva can add a natural goalscorer into his starting XI then it would do wonders in what they can potentially do next term.
