Everton presented Marco Silva as their new manager this afternoon.
New Everton boss Marco Silva has told Sky Sports that he has ‘big names’ in mind for his first Toffees signings as he begins work at Goodison Park.
Everton sacked manager Sam Allardyce and director of football Steve Walsh last month, and after landing PSV Eindhoven’s Marcel Brands as a replacement for Walsh, Allardyce’s successor was appointed last week.
After a lengthy pursuit – stretching back to October following Ronald Koeman’s sacking – Everton finally landed Portuguese boss Marco Silva as the new man in the Goodison Park hot seat.
Watford put up a real fight to keep Silva, but then sacked him just months later, paving the way for him to make the move to Merseyside – though talks over compensation between the two clubs continue.
Today, Silva – alongside new director of football Brands – was presented to the media for the first time, and the attention unsurprisingly turned to bringing new signings to Goodison Park.
Everton are being linked with a whole host of new signings, including Sporting midfielder William Carvalho, who worked with Silva during their time together with the Portuguese giants.
Now, Silva has told Sky Sports that whilst he will assess the options at his disposal already, he has ‘big names’ in mind for moves to Merseyside – and in an exciting first statement of intent, he suggest that the next few days will see more and more names come to the fore as Everton targets.
“It has already started and in the next few days will come names, and names, and names,” said Silva. “We know really what we want for our team, but the first thing we’ll do for sure is look inside, to analyse everything that we have, because it’s really important for us.”
“I have big names, I have big names. The list is not so big, because what we have is important for us, and is important to the respect of our squad and our players. Of course we will do everything we can to improve and to put more competition between them here,” he added.
